The Ocean Race 2027 sets sail from Alicante on 17 January

The 15th edition of the round-the-world race leaves Alicante on 17 January 2027, with foiling IMOCAs and the longest opening leg in the event's history.

The Ocean Race, the fully crewed round-the-world regatta contested since 1973, has confirmed the course of its 15th edition: the fleet will set sail from Alicante on 17 January 2027.

The opening leg, from Alicante to Auckland (stopover 20 February – 14 March), will be the longest in the race's history: 14,000 nautical miles. The course then runs through the Southern Ocean and past Cape Horn to Itajaí (Brazil, 31 March – 18 April), St. Pete-Clearwater (Florida, 4 – 16 May) and Cascais (Portugal, 26 May – 6 June), before the grand finale at AMAALA (1 – 5 July) — the first time the race finishes in the Red Sea.

The fleet will race foiling IMOCAs — the "flying" class — and the event continues its Racing for the Ocean sustainability programme, combining onboard science with ocean-rights advocacy.
